Clever Money-Saving Tips for Setting Up a Baby Nursery

When expecting a baby, there is no doubt that setting up a nursery is an exciting but daunting task. Not only do you want to make sure your baby has the perfect room to grow up in, but you also don't want to break the bank in the process. Luckily, there are plenty of clever space saving tips for setting up a baby nursery that won't break the bank. From adding storage baskets to using wall-mounted shelves and cribs, there are plenty of creative and budget-friendly ways to make the most of the space you have. Whether you're a first-time parent or just want to refresh your current nursery, these tips will help you get the most bang for your buck.

Utilizing wall-mounted shelves

Wall-mounted shelves can be the perfect way to add storage space without having to purchase and install shelves on the wall. There are many different styles and materials to choose from, and they can be installed easily and don't require any drilling or tools. This makes them a great option if you're renting or don't want to make any permanent changes to the nursery.

With wall-mounted shelves, you can easily add as many shelves as you need and change them around as your child grows and as your storage needs change. Wall-mounted shelves are also a great way to add a decorative touch to a nursery, and you can easily store books, toys, and other items on them.

Adding storage baskets

If you're trying to add storage space to a nursery without installing shelves on the wall, try adding storage baskets or baskets on wheels. While baskets can be used to store toys, blankets, or other items, they also make a great decoration. You can hang a basket on a wall or from the ceiling, or set it on the floor to add a pop of color or a decorative touch to the nursery. Toy storage baskets are a great way to keep toys organized and out of sight. If you're not sure where to start when organizing a nursery, baskets can be a great way to keep things tidy without having to purchase a bunch of different storage items. They’re easy to move around and can help keep toys and other baby things organized and within reach when you need them. Plus, baskets can be used for more than just toys. They're a great way to store blankets, clothes, and other items that you'll use regularly.

Purchasing multi-functional furniture

If you're buying new furniture for your baby's nursery, try to purchase multi-functional furniture. This is a great way to save money on furniture and use items that are going to last longer than you might expect. Cribs, for example, can be repurposed as a mini desk. They can also be used as a mini shelf to store books or other items. Another piece of furniture you can purchase that is multi-functional is a glider or rocker. Gliders can be used for more than just rocking your baby to sleep. You can use a glider as an extra seat in the living room or den where you can read or listen to music.

Decorating with texture and neutral colors

Setting up a nursery for your child might be stressful if you feel pressured to adhere to a specific theme. The nursery's theme can serve as a source of inspiration, but it's also a good idea to decorate with texture and neutral colors. That way, the nursery won't feel so much like a "themed room" and more like a comfortable extension of the rest of the house. It's especially useful if you plan to have more than one child and hope to reuse the room later. Using textured wall coverings and fabrics allows you to simply update your child's room as they become older. Use the same texture across the space if you ever decide to paint. Decorate the space with texture and neutral hues to make it suitable for a wide range of ages. If you decide to have another child in the future, you can easily convert the space back into a nursery.

Repurposing old items

If you're on a budget, repurposing items that you already have can be a great way to decorate your baby's nursery on a budget. This is a great way to use items you already have in your home and will likely cost less than buying new pieces. You can repurpose old books, for example, by using them as decorative items on a shelf or a table. If you have old toys or stuffed animals that an older child has outgrown, you can repurpose them too. You can use them to decorate the nursery or create a display for the new baby. Your old clothes don’t have to go anywhere else as well. You can use old shirts and turn them into a pillow or a blanket. You can repurpose any item that you have lying around the house to create a decorative piece for your nursery.

Items you currently have might often be the most effective ones for organization. Those shoe organizers you've been storing in a closet because you don't have room for an over-the-door rack? Put in there some of your baby's things like socks, ribbons, or diapers. Need a glider but don't want to spend the money? Perhaps the worn out chair from the basement can be reupholstered and serve as a glider. When you're on the lookout for things that can serve several purposes, you'll start to see them everywhere.

Considering safety features

When designing a baby's nursery, it's crucial to keep their safety in mind. Avoid putting items that can easily be damaged or shattered near your baby's reach. Furthermore, we suggest not placing  anything heavy or potentially hazardous above your infant's cot.

Things that could hurt your baby should also be kept out of their reach. Put everything that could be dangerous out of their reach, such electronics, electrical cords, and so on. Baby proof the furniture, outlets, and anything that you think will pose a threat to their safety. Make sure the furniture is well-supported and stable to avoid injuries as well.
